I can't remember that I've ever been by Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area and not seen some animals: http://tinyurl.com/kbj97bf . Don't know if that makes it good or not. ;-)

Just a request for clarification - wildlife sanctuary like http://www.fws.gov/tualatinriver/? Bird, like this audubonportland.org/sanctuaries/visiting? Wild animal rescue like this http://www.wildcathaven.org/? Farm animal sanctuary like this www.lighthousefarmsanctuary.org/about/? In Oregon there are probably a few in each category.

Cascades Raptor Center in Eugene is a fascinating place where injured raptors -- including bald, golden and brown eagles -- are treated, rehabilitated and, if possible, introduced back into the wild. A large array of birds are on exhibit at any given time and staffers are happy to show them off to visitors. Particularly engrossing at feeding times.

Hi cherryharley, I'll echo post #2 and ask if you have any particular interests? There are a variety of animal sanctuaries in Oregon.

Which areas will you be visiting?

There are also several places to see elk in the wild, with Dean Creek being a well known location, but those are not fenced areas with rescued animals - they are open areas where wild elk like to hang out and are easily visible from paved parking areas. We also have easy-to-see sea lions, harbour seals and many more wild critters :-)

Thanks for the replies. We are not sure where we are going. Just trying to find out what there might be to see. In other words, planning the vacation around the wildlife, not the other way around :-)

Wildlife Images is an organization located just outside of Grants Pass in Southern Oregon. They do incredible work. Here's their link:

I think that's a good idea provided Oregon is a good fit for the kind of wildlife you hope to see. If it's ocean/marine related, you've picked the right destination: Yaquina Head Natural Area, Sea Lion Caves, tide pools, bird sanctuaries, sea lions on the docks in Newport....maybe even a whale sighting. Between wildlife viewings, you can play on our beautiful beaches, take a dune buggy ride, or a jetboat ride on the Rogue River (where you might see non-marine wildlife). But what kind of wildlife are you interested in?
