place to hike?

we will be driving from buffalo to Pittsburgh tomorrow. Can anyone suggest a nice place to stop and take a short hike along the way - in PA - maybe in a state park, or near a lake. We drive down 90 and then 79.

We will also stop at at the Grove City Outlets - will the shops be open on Friday in the US?

thanks for your help and suggestions! (hoping for a quick drive through the border tomorrow).

What do you consider a "short hike" and what level of difficulty?

Are you set on taking the interstates, or would you consider taking an alternate route to drive through the Allegheny National Forrest? There are many great hiking options in the Allegheny National Forrest with various lengths and various difficulty.

If you do want to stay on the interstates, you may want to look at trail options around Lake Arthur. Here is a link that may be beneficial: www.trails.com/activity.aspx…

There's always Presque Isle State Park in Erie. Beautiful scenery and walking trails.

Thanks so much - we had no idea about these trails. If it isn't a huge detour they will be great.

We want to hike somewhere nice for 2 hours maybe in 2 spots along the drive without a huge detour from the highways. (Difficulty - as long as there are trails we are good to go - no back country bush or steep cliffs to navigate). We are coming from Toronto so it's about a 6 hour drive for us which is why the highways are best.

. In the summer when it's warmer and the days are longer we will do a longer hike. Thanks for your help!

Try McConnells Mill State Park in PA. off Interstate 79, exit 99 going west. It is a very scenic area with an old mill, covered bridge and white water rapids.

Thanks for the suggestions! today we spent some time at presque isle. There was a nice paved trail along the water and we had bikes in the car so it turned into a pleasent break, with only a short detour from the highway - which we appreciated after spending way too long in the car going through a very busy border on Easter Friday. There were a lot of people out on the trail, some walking and others jogging or riding bikes. We spotted some brave people kayaking and a number of small fishing boots and even a man standing in the lake fishing. We checked out the very pretty beach which I would imagine is jammed packed on a hot summer day. As always, the locals in PA were friendly and happy to chat. We are looking forward to enjoying Puttsburgh for a few days and then we will check out a hike on the way home. Thanks for the suggestions. As always TA came through again!
