Looking for Classic Neon Motel/Hotels or unusual stay-over

My sweetie and I are taking a cross-country road trip next August and we'd like to stay in hotels or motels that have that real vintage vibe. We don't have the trip mapped out yet so all towns will be considered.

I love the Safari Inn, in Burbank California. Sweet Motel with pool and vintage neon but modern facilities.

Unfortunately many older places are torn down or run down. If you know of any diamonds in the rough we’d love to hear about it.

If you have a recommendation of someplace unusual, that works too.

Thanks for any help!

Two diamonds in the Rough for you, but no neon, just understated elegance and classic inns/hotels on the beach....Weekapaug Inn, Westerly, Rhode Island and the Manasota Beach Club, Englewood, Florida.

Sounds like a fun trip!!

I can't think of anything that's left in RI that's "neon"-like, but if you want unusual, you can stay at the Rose Island lighthouse in the middle of Narraganset Bay (East Passage). For details, check out its website -- roseisland.org.

Speaking of classic motels, back in the early sixties I stayed in a place called Bob Bean's Motor Inn, which was located on Route 1, southwest of Providence.

Do any of you Rhode Island people remember Bob Bean's, or know the name of the town in which it was located?

Hi,

My boyfriend and I have a favorite place to stay up in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. It's not exaclty a neon motel but it definitley has a vintage romantic vibe. Breakfast and dinner are included in a night's stay, and have always been good. Service is very good in the restaurant and in the main office. They have several different types of rooms all with jacuzzis, most with round king size beds and lots of mirrors. Some have heart shaped jacuzzis and many have saunas. They have a fun game room with ping pong tables, pool tables and some video games. Our favorite room is the mountain terrace villa with a great double facd fireplace. It can be a little pricey, but definitely worth it.

Enjoy your trip
