want to relocate near mountains

I am from Florida and plan to relocate very soon. We want to be near the mountains, but yet still near town. Can anybody give me any suggestions on where I should set my sights. Thank You Noreen

Hello

Look at the tri-cities region of Kingsport, Tennessee and Bristol TN. . Tennessee is also a state of no income tax (FYI).

No state income tax in TN is very appealing. We lived in East TN for year and half not far from Tri-cities. NC and SC have state income tax and higher personal property taxes. SC mountains are limited, you have fewer options than TN/NC. But, I am prejuidice I love living in SC. Pro's/con's everywhere. When moving consider-what is it you like to do, if you are a night life/city lights person like I am, then you need to check out entertainment, if you are a hiker, like quiet walks in the woods, then locate nature trails/state parks, etc. I am assuming you are relocating because you want to not necessarily for a job. Write the chamber of commerce of many cities and get them to send housing info, demographics, anything they can about the area, then go visit.

Sounds like Asheville might be of interest to you? Or Hendersonville. You are in great location in the corner of NC, close to South Carolina, close to Tennessee and Virginia. You have some beautiful small mountain towns, Sylva, Cashier. Flat Rock. Tryon and Lake Lure is a beautiful lake area. You should be able to find something that fits your needs. SC has smaller mountain ranges and fewer, you will only have a few options, Paris Mountain In Greenville, Glassy Mountain, Landrum is not really mountainous but you can see the mountains. Last city in SC before you cross over NC border on I-26. I assume you are coming I-26 to Asheville, is that the area you are going to

If it is open, take a drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway, it is absolutely beautiful, you will end up at Mt Mitchell and what a view. There are several places you can get on the parkway. Last time we were on there, we rode our motorcycle, left Black Mountain (another nice area) outside of Asheville, it was about 70 degrees, rode up to top of Mt Mitchell and it was freezing up there, in the low 30's.
