Keystone, SD to Devil's Tower itinerary help needed

We'll be staying 5 nights in Keystone. I have a sixth day that is totally open. If we decide to drive to Devil's Tower, would you recommend going on the 6th day and where should we stay? After the 6th day, we will be heading back to Missouri (home). Suggestions welcome and appreciated!

It appears to be a 2 - 2 1/2 hour drive north/northwest so I would guess you need to budget that into your drive time back to Missouri. We have booked at the Best Western in Hulett Wy.

I would definitely recommend seeing Devil's Tower. You ask about doing it on your 6th day. Do you have Spearfish Canyon and/or Deadwood in your current itinerary? Many incorporate all 3 of these in one day.

If you post your entire itinerary, maybe we could help you more in making suggestions for your final day. Devil's Tower is a great choice, however.

Hulett is very close to Devil's Tower, practially right there. You could also consider staying in Spearfish, Deadwood, or even Lead, which are about an hour away from the tower.

Enjoy your trip!

We plan to explore the various parks and drive the scenic routes. We have 4 full days in the area - staying in Keystone - plus the fifth day which is open as to where we will stay.

We do want to eat lunch one day at the State Game Lodge.

We're not planning on the train ride. Maybe one museum somewhere along the way. Also enjoy seeing the interesting architecture of small towns.

Suggestions welcome.

If you are looking for interesting architecture, you need to plan time in Hot Springs. They were declared a Distinctive Destination by the National Historic Society and the VAMC there was just awarded National Treasure status. The Freedom Trail invites you to get out & walk under the waterfall downtown. The Pioneer Museum is in the old sandstone school house. Plus the world famous Mammoth Site is worth a trip!
