Help planning itinerary for 5 days

We fly into Denver will rent car and drive to Sturgis where we will be staying for 6 nights. We would like to do some easy hikes and drive scenic routes to visit badlands, crazy horse, mt Rushmore, deadwood, devils tower, wall, and more looking for a 5 day itinerary. Would also appreciate restaurant suggestions. We are 4 adults traveling to area for a first time visit.

Are you attending the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally? If not, would you mind sharing the dates you are considering coming? If you are not attending the Rally, we would want to help you schedule your trip so you avoid coming during the rally.

Six nights is a nice slot of time. You should be able to do most of the things you want to do.

Yes, dates would be very helpful. If you are not going for the rally, I would not stay in Sturgis, but that's just me. There's not much there, and the town itself would not make for a good base, as it's further from the sites.

The must sees of the area include:

Mt. Rushmore

Crazy Horse

Badlands

Devil's Tower

Wind Cave

Jewel Cave.

Custer State Park

Spearfish Canyon

For restaurants, I'd suggest the following:

Big Time Pizza, Keystone

Alpine Inn, Hill City (get there either early or late to avoid a long wait for a table)

Any of the lodges in Custer State Park

Be sure to order a travel planner at travelsd.com.

You can do your list of must sees very comfortably in 5 days with plenty of time to spare. Think about what else might interest you in the area, and we could possibly suggest a better itinerary.

We arrive Aug. 28 and leave Sept. 3. We are staying near Sturgis because our friends, who we are traveling with, bid on a home there at a charity auction.

The itinerary can be done in any order but here is a sample:

Maybe hit Devils Tower on way from Denver?

Day 1 Spearfish Canyon Scenic Drive with hikes to waterfalls (Devils Tower can also be added to this day), then on to Deadwood or Lead for the mine.

Day 2 Badlands Scenic Drive with hikes (Notch, Door/Windows, etc.) Wall Drug maybe Minuteman Missile site if interested (stop to get tickets early in day when arrive). Maybe also scenic Sage Creek Rim Rd?

Day 3 Wind Cave (if interested), Wildlife Loop in Custer State Park, Iron Mountain Rd to Keystone & Mt Rushmore

Day 4 Crazy Horse then Sylvan Lake in CSP, possibly hike Harney Peak (highest point, good half day needed) or Sunday Gulch Trail

Day 5 Jewel Cave, drive Needles Hwy and do some hikes around that side of Custer SP, explore Rapid City or Skyline Drive, do anything else missed or want to see again, etc.

Those dates are fine. You will be arriving after the rally. The other posters have given you great suggestions.
