Guest ranch recommendation?

Planning trip to Tennessee with two boys (8 and 10), coming all the way from Norway for a deep south experience. A few nights at a "cowboy ranch" would surely be a lifetime experience for the kids.

Any suggestions?

Tennessee is not the deep south - that would be S Carolina, Georgia, Alabama,, Mississippi. Tennessee is considered the mid south.

Don't know of any cowboy ranches in Tenn. Doesn't mean there aren't any, but cowboy culture is more a feature of the Western US - Texas, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, etc.

There are not ranches in Tennessee. My husband is from Texas and there are a number of ranches there. Just google "dude ranch" and you should find all kinds of possibilities.

It is true, the South is not ranch country, and TN is not the deep South - but if you are going to be in TN anyway, you might check this out:

Tennessee is approx 430 miles across from east to west. If you will be visiting the eastern portion of the state, check this out: http://www.frenchbroadriver.com/ Beautiful part of the state near the Smoky Mountains.

The Sequatchie Valley Ranch (linked above) IS a fun place, great people, and outstanding hospitality. Very affordable as well. Also a very scenic area.

Not sure where in TN you are planning for the rest of your trip, but another option could be north of I-40 and west of I-75, the Big South Fork National Rec area ( www.nps.gov/biso)

Incredibly beautiful area that is extremely popular with horse lovers.

Here is an outfit that will do comprehensive horseback trips, will tailor to what you are looking for, While it is not a full guest ranch, these folks can help you make arrangements for where to stay in the area, and other activities:

a couple places to stay there:

Have fun,

There is a guest ranch in the NC mountains just east of Asheville. Check out www.clearcreekranch.com
