Hi

We are visiting this area travelling in August with our two sons 15 and 20 .We all like some history, beautiful natural scenery, swimming ,boats and wonder if any must see things come to mind. I am on Easter break and busy planning and booking the trip

PLEASE ADVISE US ON WHERE TO STAY

Our route and time scale is

Austin

2 days San Antonio

Galveston

Lake Charles area

Plantation House Louisiana

3 days New Orleans

2 days Orange Beach

Tallahassee

finishing with 8 days in Orlando family reunion

Any advice recommendations would be gratefully appreciated.

I have a few stops to just ensure no leg is too long but am open to advice please

Kindest thanks Ada

To make hotel suggestions, people will need to know your budget per night. Also, if you haven't already done this, consider posting on the Road Trips forum as well as the local forums for the places you want to stay, especially New Orleans. Prepare for the heat--all your destinations will be very hot and mostly steamy in August.

OK. Here are a few suggestions. In Austin, you can rent kayaks on Lady Bird Lake (aka Town Lake). Check out Barton Springs for swimming--really cool you off in August. The Bob Bullock museum for some Texas history. The LBJ Presidential Library on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. (You don't mention when in August you will be here. Move in weekend for the students at UT will probably be the weekend around Aug. 23-25; lots of people and traffic in the campus area; restaurants and hotels are crowded, and many hotels book solid and raise rates.)

Kind of between Austin and San Antonio there is Natural Bridge Caverns. Also nearby is Enchanged Rock State Natural Area, in Fredericksburg. Fredericksburg is a neat little town--shops, restaurants, wineries nearby and a WWII museum.

San Antonio--the Alamo, of course. The Riverwalk. Try to visit at least a couple of the other Spanish missions.

Is this more in line with what you need?
