Texas road trip 6/25 - 7/4

We are family of 4 (with 2 teenage kids) from California and planning for a 10 days road trip. We will be flying in and out of San Antonio or Austin 6/25 - 7/5. Need suggestions for route and activities. Thanks.

What are you interested in seeing and doing? Texas has a lot to offer, and recommendations will depend on what you and the kids like seeing and doing.

My son enjoys sport especially baseball and my daughter loves musical. We like to take the back road to explore Texas. Hopefully check out some of the famous Texas's bbq restaurants and future college for our kids. Oh, my husband love to go to the bike and/or train museums.

OK--let's see if we can get you started. Here's a list of all the sports teams in Texas: …wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Texas_sports_tea… We have, of course, two major league baseball teams--the Texas Ranger (Arlington) and the Houston Astros (Houston), along with a number of minor league teams in various parts of the state. In addition, some of the universities have some of the best teams in the country, and their games are very inexpensive to attend.

As for musicals, Houston has Theater Under the Stars (TUTS) and Miller Outdoor Theater (the latter being free), as well as several community theater productions going on. I'm sure most other cities have similar performances, as well.

BBQ restaurants are all over the state, with the best ones being mostly in the area around Austin, although Houston has recently hit a couple of home runs with Killen's BBQ in Pearland (southeast of the city) and Gatlin's (in the city). Other than the two I mentioned, read the following article for suggestions: texasmonthly.com/eat-my-words/list-top-50-ba…

As far as a bicycle museum, apparently a group here in Houston is trying to find a location to put one together, but the only info is on Facebook, which I don't do. If you do, you might check it out at https:/…HoustonBicycleMuseum. As far as train museums, I use Bing (as opposed to Google), and entered "train museum Texas"--got seven pages of results, far too many to list here, but they appear to be spread all over the state.

As far as universities, we've got plenty. If they're top students, definitely consider looking into Rice University, right here in Houston--it's on a par with schools like Vanderbilt, some of the Ivy League schools, etc. There are many other great schools, as well, depending on what their interests are.

What else can we help with?
