Wanted: a pilot's guide to the best Texas has to offer

I'm headed for the hill country in early April- can't wait to see the wildflowers. Will also visit Austin, SanAntonio, Kerrville, Fredericksburg,-- and whatever else y'all recommend. I'm especially interested in advice for a gal with a little airplane: Where to land, where to stay, what not to miss, what adventures to have. Particularly interested in things a little off the beaten path, discoveries that will lend a feel for the REAL Texas. Thanks!

Recently read about a pilot who liked the Hard 8 BBQ in Stephenville (at the far north end of the Hill Country). Evidently the owner of the Hard 8 is a pilot, and he leaves a golf cart at the field to pilots can get to 'cue.

As for S'ville, it's REAL cowboy country. Lots of PRA cowboys live nearby, and, unlike much of the rest of the Hill Country (Marble Falls), it isn;t overrun by tourists and geriatics. Try the real can sugar Dr. Pepper from near-by Dublin, TX. Kicks the heck out of the normal corn syrup swill.
