Trip Report Part 5

Day 10 con't;

After great sunrise pictures and pictures of hotel inside and out, we headed toward Mesa Verde via Hwy 160.

Of course, since we were there, we had to stop at 4 Corners Monument. Great bunch of venders there. Bought some fry bread and the receipe, which, by the way, I have tried a couple times since we've been home and it's just not the same. Maybe they left out a secret ingreidient accidently on purpose. Anybody out there got a receipe they actually use they wouldn't mind sending me????

Now, since this was a last minute change in plans, I hadn't done any research on this area. Had no idea where to stay or eat. Asked one of the Indians at 4 corners and they recommended a casino at edge of town. So, we checked into the Ute Mountain Casino Hotel. Looked ok from outside and lobby area, but rooms sucked. Carpets were filthy and horrible mattresses; worst placed we stayed in this whole trip. oh well, we survived.

Went on to Mesa Verde. What we could see of Cortez as we drove thru, seemed to be a very dirty town and didn't appear very friendly---IMO--- course we all know first impressions aren't always right.

Mesa Verde was excellant!!!! So cool, so many cliff dwellings.{ over 600} They are so impressive and even getting an understanding of how and why they did it, I still keep saying " HOW'D THEY DO THAT?" We took a guided tour down to Cliff Palace. Just amazing!!! Drove around and took lots of pictures of others. So glad we made this detour, we both really enjoyed seeing this park.

Day 11

Backed tracked to original destination of Page. As we were entering Page we noticed the sign on the left and right, Antelope Canyon. This being the main thing I wanted to see here, we flipped around to see if we could catch a tour. Piece of cake! Got set up for a 11am tour--$31.00 each. Our tour guides had suburbans to ride in instead of those open trucks. I was really thrilled about that part. Two other guys with us. Our guide "Scooby", was really cool and informative. We were just in AW walking through this slot canyon. {upper}. Every other word out my mouth was wow, wow,WOW WOW. So cool!! It was just so beatiful---words or pictures can't do it justice. I took tons of pictures, but quite a few I've had to delete cause they were blurry or to dark. I'm not a potographer and Scooby was very helpful showing me how to adjust settings on the camera. I still came back with alot of very good ones. Loved this place.

After finishing our tour we headed on into Page hoping we could still get a room. Got a great suite at Best Western Arizonia Inn. Ate lunch, but that was going to be the end of touring Page area. This whole trip hubby's ears had been all plugged up and had a bad cough. Wasn't sick, but just not right. So we headed to a clinic. That and waiting for script's to get filled took up most of the rest of the day. Grabbed a pizza and went back to room. That's ok, cause to be honest, I'm not big on water or boats, and mostly wanted to see the slot canyon, which I did.

Next day we're headed for the Grand Canyon-SR.

It's beautiful, you'd love it. We lived about 16 years in Reno, Nev. area, and you couldn't pay me enough to move back to the desert. Been up here 28 yrs. now.

When I am able to plan the trip I will have to ask you for some advise on what not to miss - over on the Alaska board of course!
