Traveling in first week of August - Colorado and Utah

We (2 couples) will be traveling for 11 full days ( flight to and from Denver)

Main interests are scenic drives, small hiking, natural scenery ( not much interested in visiting historical sites, various activities).

We are planning to visit RMNP- trail ridge road, top of the Rockies byway, then planning to go to arches, canyonland national park, if possible upto Bryce crayon and back.

We are not sure about visiting mount evans, San Juan skyway, black canyon of gunnison and great sand dunes NP.

Any suggestion from you guys, will be helpful. This is an excellent forum.

Thanks.

Hi

Depends on how long you want to stay at places. Bryce probably will be out of the way and maybe best to make that a separate trip from Las Vegas and also see Zion and places like Page.

What you can do is to drive to Mesa Verde NP after Moab and also drive San Juan Skyway. Hard to beat if you are looking for scenic drives. Also Black Canyon of the Gunnison is awesome and so are the drives back to Denver. You can go to Colorado Springs and drive up Pikes Peak (or take the Cog) see Gardens of the Gods. Or do the drive up to Mount Evans instead.

Between RMNP and Moab there also is a gem called Colorado NM and from I70 in Utah take 128 to Moab.

Driving from Moab to Bryce easily can take 2 days with the many stops on your way like Little Wild Horse Canyon, Goblin Valley, Capitol reef NP and all along www.scenicbyway12.com

I think the first thing to do is look near the upper right corner of this screen for the box with the green border labeled: Top Questions About Utah.

Read through those postings and see about all the National Parks.

Definitely, see the San Juan mountains in CO......Ouray, Telluride. Amazing. Fits in with your tour.....from Moab, take UT 46 / CO 90. Definitely, try and see Bryce, too. Also amazing.

Thanks for the reply, I just posted question re: where to stay in south east Utah.

Is it feasible, if I stay at Beaver while travelling Bryce/ capital reef? And staying at green river for 2-3 nights while visiting Arches/ canyonlands?

Thanks.

Green River is a one hour drive from Moab and Beaver is 70 miles from Bryce. I'd stay closer to the parks.

You'll want to stay in Moab to see Arches and Canyonlands

For Bryce you'll want to stay either in the park or just outside it in the Ruby's Inn Complex (technically Bryce Canyon City). Also close would be Tropic or Panguitch.

For Capitol Reef stay in Torrey.
