Skiing over Christmas and New Year

We are planning to ski from the 30th Dec to the 5th January this Christmas in Vermont (over from Ireland).

ave been looking at Killington (have found some good accomodation slopeside)...

Is this a good skiing destination... others are saying Stowe...

We have skiied 3 or 4 times (a family of 5 with 3 kids aged 12,10 and 7) in Europe so would like plenty of runs etc... and lots of snow...

Any views appreciated!

Thanks

Hi 5Starneeded,

Both places have excellent skiing but it is different from Europe. You will find no mountain side eating/drinking places but you will find lots of easy access, not too many lift queues and cheap eating in Killington. I originally came from the UK and I prefer Killington as it's less poncy than Stowe! It also has all it's skiing in one place where as Stowe is on two mountains. Killington is also much nearer to Boston and i think your kids would prefer it.

Killington is a lot bigger than Stowe (maybe 2X the runs and the lifts). They also have tons of snowmaking. It is a bit more of a working class area, vs. Stowe which is rather quaint and ritzy.

If you're after the best snow and don't mind possible crowds, then Killington is a good choice. :)

With kids you may be better off with a more family oriented mountain like Okemo. Its well groomed, well patrolled, plenty lifts, over 119 trails and has about 97% snow making should mother nature not play nice. there is also tons of good quality slopeside accommodation Jackson Gore Inn is a great choice and has wonderful indoor outdoor pool that the kids would love. www.okemo.com
