Peninsula between NY and VT - where to stay?

I'm intrigued by the small peninsula of land between NY and VT. I remember driving here, about 10-15 years ago, and the countryside being beautiful. It felt really isolated. I also remember longing for a good cup of coffee and a bite to eat. Out of nowhere appeared a gas station/deli type place with wonderful coffee and great pastries. That unexpected stop made this trip! We're thinking about going back. So, here are my questions: does anyone have any idea where I was? Is my gas station/deli still there? Are there any places to stay on this peninsula? thanks.

That "peninsula" represents the Lake Champlain Islands of Vermont, and they are beautiful.

Start your on-line review of its charms here:

That gas station/deli might have been Hero's Welcome in North Hero:

Or, Keeler's Bay Variety in South Hero:

A nice casual place to eat is fairly new, the Blue Paddle Bistro in South Hero:

A lovely place to stay, and dine, is North Hero House:

Another good choice to stay, and dine, albeit not quite as "upscale" as North Hero House, is Shore Acres:

Don't miss the Allenholm Farm orchard for fresh apples in the fall, and pies and more:

Have fun!

Signofthetimes - I think it's Hero's Welcome! You helped me find that delightful little store. I checked out your link, then mapped it into Google, and did the street view, and I'm pretty sure that's where we had the wonderful fuel-and-food-and-coffee stop. Yes, I think we'll plan a return visit!
