Vermont for the holidays

My husband and I are talking about traveling to Vermont for Christmas this year. We are interested in snowshoeing, sledding, snowmobiling, spa time and exploring small towns. We’ve never been to Vermont and have no idea where to start our vacation planning. What part of Vermont would you suggest for us?

Stowe, Manchester/Manchester Ctr, Woodstock, or in the Greater Burlington area(perhaps, Shelburne) would places to investigate first.

Look at the left side of the screen in the Forum, look at the tab "Things to do" to get a sense of what each town has to offer, unfortunately it does not give you info about the surrounding towns, so once you find one that interests you google a Vermont map to find surrounding towns and see what they have to offer as well. Or ask us once you've found a town to focus on.

Will you fly into Burlington?

I am most familiar with Stratton which would have all you are looking for. You would fly into Albany to get there. But quite honestly, the entire state is really fine for what you want, it is just a matter of choosing a resort and then finding the accommodations that meet your budget and other requirements. You will find that Vermont (and NH for that matter) is really a state of mind.

Lots of golf courses have snowmobiling, sledding, nordic skiing, snowshoeing so you may want to consider that type of resort vs staying at a ski resort since you don't indicate that downhill skiing is the object of the trip.

Here is just one suggestion.

Agree with the above post. Stowe is our favorite. You can fly into Burlington (~45 min drive), and either stay there or in Stowe itself. Both towns are great home bases to do sightseeing, outdoor activities (esp. Stowe), and have decent clubs and restaurants (esp. Burlington).
