Hike in Vermont over 5 days

I am taking my Daughter to her orientation at UVM on June 27th and arriving early and will have 5 days to spend checking out Vermont. We are flying into Boston and driving up. I heard about Mt. Mansfield which sounds great and was looking for advice for the following. 1. Some good day hikes that are scenic and a bit seculded if possible. 2. Places to bike along the same lines. 3. Some easy lake kayaking where possible. Thank you very much and any recommendations on places to stay as well. We thought we would start in Central Vermont and work our way up and then back to Burlington for the orientation. Thank you.

You've already gotten some good suggestions for hikes from your 5/14 thread. There are many 'secluded' hikes around Mansfield if you go on weekdays. If you want some other input, let us know where/when/what specifically you're looking for. Lincoln gap might be of interest, as would Mt. Abraham, Burnt Rock Mtn,, Duck Brook Shelter, and many others. There are dozens of spectacular hikes in the White Mtns in NH too, ranging from easy to extreme.

There's plenty of biking on many bike paths and smaller town roads - again, you need to be more specific re: what general areas you're interested in, how far & how much vertical.

Easy lake kayaking can be had at the Burlington waterfront, as well as Waterbury reservoir, Green River reservoir, Burton Island, and many more.

Hi Maggie1G,

Woodstock has the Appalachian Trail and many other hikes near by including the Mount Tom national Park. It's slap bang in the middle of the State and about 2.5 hours easy drive from Boston. Check out the village website www.woodstockvt.com for more information.....you can then take route 100N and do the Lincoln gap part of Chris & Liz's itinerary on the way to Burlington.
