do we need to book?

We are intending to do a tour from NY up to Boston and across to do do the 'fall'. We have been advised that accommodation can get booked up quickly so we should book in advance. Others say however, there's loads of motels etc so don't worry. any advice?

You don't say exactly when you're going, but if it's during fall foliage season, then yes, you need to book. If you search now, you'll probably find that a lot of places are already booked up. If you leave it until you're there, you might not have much choice, or any choice at all.

Evening Munro276,

Simple answer BOOK! Otherwise you will spend half your trip looking for a bed for the night and often being disappointed with what you find and pay.

thanks for reply. This is our first trip to the USA and will be there from 2/10 to 16/10. We intend to spend the first few days in New york then take a train to New Haven and pick up a hire car. Then up the coast to Cape Cod, up to Boston and then West. We will have our 15 year old daughter with us so we don't want to be traveling in the car for too long.

I would book as soon as you can. You may be able to find a room mid-week, but weekends are almost impossible to find without advance booking. For example, my inn is already sold out for those weekends. Checking around for other guests, there is still some availability here and there, but I would imagine by the time you get here, that it will be next to impossible to find a room on the weekends.
