Christmas in Vermont along the lines of

Our children won't be coming home for the holidays so we've decided to head out of town. Is it possible to find a lodge or vacation rental along the lines of the classic "White Christmas".movie? Or is that pure fantasy on our part.? Snow, sleigh rides, snowshoeing, a Christmas tree, good food and clean accommodations.. Any suggestions are appreciated.

There are certainly places like that, though the snow and idyllic 30-degree weather is hit and miss year to year. Stowe, Woodstock, and Craftsbury are wonderful little towns. Burlington is great as well, though a little larger and with wider food choices.

in addition to the bigger towns already mentioned, take a look at the smaller villages surrounding the little village of Chester. Each represents the quintessential VT village, within a 20 minute drive of Chester. Weston, home of the original VT Country Store, Grafton, home of Grafton Cheese, Londondary, home of Taylor hill Farm ...Cheese maker and sleigh rides, Saxtons River....and the list goes on.

You can but book yesterday. As C_a_L said, you can find the places but the happy ending of the door opening and snow coming down can't be guaranteed. There are a ton of places that can make that magical Xmas feeling. It is not too hard to search for these places and there are way more than I could ever name throughout NE.

My vote is Woodstock, VT. I tried Manchester last year and that 'feel" that you are looking fo just wasnt there. Stay at Woodstock Inn, get a massage, go ona sleigh ride with a cocktail and walk to dinner in your snow boots!

Agree that the manchester by the outlets would fail the White Xmas test but Equinox in Manchester Village would not. But maybe the Dorset Inn would work

Certainly there are lots of wonderful villages around the state...I live around the Northeast Kingdom and we're quite proud of Montgomery Center - close to Jay Peak, beautiful Cross Country and Snow Shoeing trails, Dog sled rides, lovely little village, great B&B's (Phineas Swann and The Montgomery House) and cabins...the locals are gracious and fun and the restaurants superb...Come on up!
