Traveling from Los Angeles with an infant and a toddler

We are "planning" on a last- minute vacation to Vermont late August. It is so over whelming- so many things to see in such a small place! Wow!

Which cities would you suggest from a family traveling all the way from the west coast?

We lean more towards gardens, easy hikes with kids, visiting working farm, cheese factories, picnicking around a water body, taking my horse-loving kid to a horse farm may be kind of things. Not big on museums...

Having these in mind, how do you suggest we split our stay?

Will 2-3 days in Burlington and 2 days in Woodstock work for us?

Thanks

From scouring the travel forums we have decided to visit Burlington and Woodstock. will these two cities

We have 7 days on hand- we are big nature lovers. Not big on museums..

Burlington seems to be a mandatory stop -

Woodstock seems to cater to our tastes.

Sounds good. If you have more days to fill in, Stowe or Manchester are 2 other spots to consider.

See Localmotion.org they have a trail finder for hikes which covers part of Vermont.

Since you are going to Burlington, plan to visit nearby Shelburne Farms, where you can hike some beautiful trails, watch cheese being made, ride in a wagon, and see a working farm where your toddler can pet some of the animals. You'll also get a gorgeous view of Lake Champlain.

If you have time, you might also want to stop at the Vermont Wildflower Farm.

Forgot this: the University of Vermont's Morgan Horse Farm in Weybridge, which is about an hour from Burlington:

If you child loves horses you may want to consider staying at the Wildflower Inn up near Lyndonville. If that is not of interest, I think your idea is a solid one. Though you don't like museums, the Montshire Museum is fantastic for kids and has lovely walks on the grounds, the Echo Science center in Burlington is supposed to be great for kids too. It's right on Lake Champlain Both good rainy day ideas.

Second the Montshire Museum. It is fun for kids of all ages, no matter the weather. ECHO would be good for a rainy day, heaven forbid!

Shelburne Farms is a beautiful spot to walk around.
