Vermont Fall Foliage - is Oct 6-8 too late to go?

Hi,

We are planning on making a little road trip up to Vermont from Pennsylvania for 3 days to see the beautiful fall foliage there. We are planning on going from October 6-8 as that is my birthday weekend. Is this an ok time for this year or it will be too late? What does it look like there right now?

Also, I read Route 100 is very scenic. Any other suggestions?

Thank you!

Its the perfect time to come EXCEPT that it is Columbus Day Weekend and if you don't have accommodations lined up you may have a hard time finding some. Book your accommodations ASAP!

Yes, Route 100 is gorgeous. Really, the whole state is. You can't go wrong!

Evening Traveler_Lien,

Hope you got rooms booked? If not you have set yourself a TALL challenge as has been mentioned....it is the busiest weekend of the year!

When we know where you might be staying we can suggest tours off route 100.

We actually have found a place in Rochester. It is a B&B and the owners say they are 5mins off Route 100. Lucky us! :) We will be arriving on Oct 6 and then we will have ALL DAY on Oct 7 to drive around or do whatever... Leaving on the 8th. Would love to see some nice mountain views, maybe some waterfalls... I just don't know where to look for them.

Morning again, Rochester is right slap bang in the middle of the route 100 drive, also visit Sandy's cafe & 2nd handbook shop next tot he gas station....ask for some Hemperoons...a great cake!

From Rochester take route 125 over to Middlebury and stop a the Texas falls, and return via the Lincoln gap to route 100 then head north to Warren (see general store) and on up to Ben & Jerry's in Waterbury and then Stowe. Then potter back along route 100 to Rochester.

The next day head south on route 100 taking in Woodstock (on route 4) then double back for 5 miles to take route 100A route (Calvin Coolidge homestead) back to route 100 via Weston (Vermont Country store) at Londonderry aim for Chester and then for Grafton (whole village a preservation trust) and then meander back over to route 100 and head south via Newfane and Jamaica towards Brattleboro or head towards Bennington depening which way south you are continuing.

There is a great waterfall about 20 minutes north of Rochester along Route 100 in Granville Gulf - Moss Glen Falls. You can't miss it.

Dave's advice is good - if you do the Middlebury Gap loop he mentions make sure to stop and stretch your legs on the Robert Frost Trail.

Have a good trip!
