What a trip we have had!!!!!
Left Gettysburg in the rain and made for the Shanandoah Nat; Park; the weather did not improve so on the Park Rangers advice we took the low road to Charlottesville. Stayed at the Holiday Inn - very friendly and looked around the town that afternoon.
Sun shining again, visited Monticello. The guides on the different tours were excellent certainly knew all the history and details of the house and gardens. Lunch facilities were sadly lacking as we did not want to go to the tavern for a 'full' meal.
In the evening we walked around a ew of the college buildings.
Onto the Blue Ridge Parkway, lovely ride, saw deer, wild turkeys....and a bear standing in the middle of the road, great thrill. Stopped at numerous look-outs and had a lovely lunch at
Peaks of Otter and a walk around the lake. Onwards then to a nights stop in Roanoke.
Continued down the Parkway enjoying the quietness and the wonderful scenery,stopping as and when until we reached Blowing Rock - what a wonderful place. Just managed to get rooms in the Azalea Garden Inn. To be contd;
