I 81 - not too far from exit-family stop for 4 nights

Will be travelling on I81 with 6 year old and 2 year old. Would like to detour for 3 or 4 days to enjoy mountain area. Like to hike and swim- casual dining but well prepared food. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I would recommend the Massanutten Resort in McGaheysville, VA (about 12 miles off the Harrisonburg exit 247A of I81). The resort offers a variety of activities for all ages.

There is an entrance (Swift Run Gap) to Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah State National nearby. There are hiking trails of varying difficulties available throughout the park.

Kids will love the virginia safari park at natural bridge. You drive through it and all kinds of friendly animals come to your car. If a kid gets scared you can just roll up the window and move on. My kids love this place.

As for swimming the howard johnson lexington has a nice hilltop pool and a safe grassy area for kids to run and play
