First Battle of Manassas

Of course today July 21, 2011 is the 150th anniversary of this batte know to some as the first battle of Bull Run.

There are numerous events taking place in Manassas to mark this epic battle. If you get the chance make the trip.

I should also mention that Whitt's Harley-Davidson, next door to the Confederate Cemetery is allowing people to park there as long as you are touring the cemetery grounds. Please be kind to them and their property if you do a self tour.

They already have the camp set up at Jennie Dean park. The homes along Grant Ave. are decorated nicely. Beware of road closures, as well as the heat. It is horrible hot today. Felt sorry for the ladies in period costume-hoping they had secret A/C systems hidden in their hoops!

Hot just doesn't describe this weather! Imagine what it was like fighting that battle in wool uniforms.

I can't make it up there until tomorrow but I'm very excited to be going. Thanks for the report J.
