Need retirement trip suggestions

I am retiring (husband already is) in Mid April 2012. While there are tons of sites already on our bucket list we are looking for a place that we have not already considered....late April-early May 2012.

Suggestions please..we love mountains, bed and breakfasts, seafood, relaxed style walking, amish, flea markets....nothing commercial and very populated. Have been to VA before. Ideas for a relaxing trip in VA or elsewhere.

Tide's Inn is fun. Wintergreen is a lot of fun too. Good luck.

Since you've been to Virginia before - Where did you go? What did you like, and what did you not like? Are you taking this trip for ideas on where to retire, or just to take a trip and enjoy yourselves?

I like the Eastern Shore - Chincoteague Island in particular - as well as the Charlottesville area. If history and museums are things you enjoy, the Historic Triangle (Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown) has a lot to offer. If you time it right, Virginia's Historic Garden week is at that time of year.

My husband grew up in Virginia Beach and the eastern shore was his stomping ground. Just loves it. We have thought about retiring there but from what it was when he was a kid...we think we would find there are too many people there now.

We may just head there to see friends and fish and eat seafood.

Are you familiar with Eatern Shore Nursey of Virginia? We like arboretums and are always on the lookout for some hostas that we currently don't have.

6 1/2 months will go fast I think. We are ready!!!!

Maybe someone could suggest a good RV park for May 2012. We are from Ontario, Canada and have never been to the area before so I can't say what area we would be interested in.

Thanks

Beth

Try the Northern Neck of Virginia - northernneck.org. Little traffic, low population, waterfront, seafood, small museums dotting the towns, villages, historic districts, master gardeners, naturalists, and bird-watchers. Historic area was settled by the English in the mid-1600s and the steamboat era was the way of transportation through the first part of the last century. An hour & a half from Richmond, 2-3 hours from Washington, DC. nntc@northernneck.org or 804.333.1919 for more info.

The Northern Neck sounds grand. I would appreciate any suggestions for lodging and places to visit. Trip Advisor has lead us to the most wonderful B&Bs and out of the way locations. We appreciate you all. LadyFeathers
