Are you asking for any must do's along the way? Or once you get to DC?

Wow. Virginia Beach is about 4 hours from DC, so you can see a lot if you want to stretch it to 6 days.

You might get more answers if you give an idea of your interests. Cities, small towns, history, nature, amusement parks, shopping etc. You can find it all somewhere between VB and DC.

You could head up through Williamsburg, Richmond and Fredericksburg VA.

Williamsburg is the most visited of those.

Or you could head across the Cheasapeake Bay Bridge tunnel and up the eastern shore. Cape Charles and Onancock VA are small towns worth at least a quick stop. Chincoteague VA is a great stop where many people spend a week or more. Then head west maybe stopping around Easton/Oxford/St. Michaels MD and then across the bay to Annapolis.

Take a look at some of these and see what appeals to you. Once you narrow your choices, people can give you more advice.

It sounds like a fun trip to me.
