Hi there,

You've posted on the Washington state forum, but I think you're looking for the Washington DC forum which you'll find here: tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g28970-i40-Washing…

Trev B,

Yes, you are posting on the Washington State forum, but your question is somewhat generic, so I will try and answer.

Yes, the one-way car rental fees are typically hefty, but it does vary widely by car company. I would start first by searching on kayak.com to get a general idea, then go directly to the individual car rental sites. I would also call and see if you can get a better deal talking with a human. Work other deals and affiliations, use coupons. For example, if you are a COSTCO member, they typically have good rental rates and deals. My insurance company also has a car rental division with VERY favorable rates that often waive some of the other fees. It takes a little time and effort, but more than likely a little effort now will save you considerably.

You should also post on the Road Trips forum. They know more about avoiding drop fees there.
