Driving Cannon Beach to Port Angeles, stop in Olympia?

Hi,

We are travelling home to Vancouver Island (nanaimo) from Cannon Beach and are planning on taking the Coho. We are travelling with a 5yr old and 2yr old so will need to stop somewhere for a night to break up the trip back. Is it far out of the way to stop in Olympia, Washington?

For some reason my husband thinks Port Townsend looks haunted and doesn't want to stay there!

That can depend on how you plan go from Astoria. 30 to Kelso then I5 and 101 to Oly about the same distance, but 101 is almost 20 miles shorter to PA if you take 108 to near Shelton. but that misses Oly.

I think we were planning on taking the 108- not sure where else to stop between Astoria and PA

Hmm. I think Port Townsend interesting, and do remember something there is haunted, but not whole town.

I like Olympia. Has a decent waterfront area, state capitol grounds, nice downtown. My work took me there. Always stayed downtown.

There is a motel or two along Hood Canal. Hoodsport for one. which is sort of interesting. though much less so than Olympia in my view.

Then there is Sequim.

Haunted? Smiling when I say, it's a pleasant, historic town, with interesting architecture, lots of waterfront and water views, parks, etc. Your husband has been watching too many Jack Nicholson movies! LOL

Sequim is fine, TA has "Hotel" reviews; try also the local Chamber of Commerce or tourism agency.

Perhaps local DEs will chime in.

'twill be a shame to miss Port Townsend; perhaps another time, since you are sort of local, when M. Drama lightens up! LOL

Port Townsend is the nicest, by far. Get him a tinfoil hat for the day.

Port Townsend is one of my favorite towns in NW, even better than Olympia. on your planned route. Sequim ok, but PA better in my view. if you get that far

Those aren't ghosts, they're just retirees.

The Manresa Hotel is supposed to be haunted and has been on TV. The Fountain Cafe has also been on TV, scheduled again this year, as Washington Best Cafe. So there's that.

It's wonderful here. Come enjoy.
