Sketchy neighborhoods east of the Capitol ?

I'm soon going to be a first-time visitor to DC and I have a safety-related question.

I've lived in big cities all my adult life so I'm more than comfortable with borderline sketchy neighborhoods.

However, I'd like to get breakfast at Jimmy T's at 5th & Capitol (501 E Capitol St SE) so it would be useful to know how quickly the neighborhood goes downhill east of the Capitol ? And I don't mean in a geographical sense !

Thanks

Nick

Not that quickly. You should be fine.

I agree. There are many congressional staffers who live over there and it is very close to Eastern Market (another cool place to check out).

Fisher,

That neighborhood is very safe - it's only a few blocks from the Capitol complex, and as dctravel stated, many Hill staffers and younger couples live in that area. A great area.

Thanks guys. I assumed that was the case, but it never hurts to check. Now the only bodily risk I'm running is furred arteries from the grease !
