Mount Vernon and Twilight tour in one day???

I am trying to plan my itinerary and was wondering if we would have time to see Mount Vernon during the day and get back in time to do a twilight tour at 6:30.

We are planning on taking the Metro and bus to Mount Vernon so we wouldn't be at the mercy of a tour to get back in time but I don't want to cut our time too short at Mount Vernon either.

Thanks!

This shouldn't be a problem at all--Mount Vernon opens at 8am, so just plan on getting an early start on your visit there. If you get there early, you should have plenty of time to see all the sights, take a couple tours, eat lunch and go through the Visitor's Center by mid-afternoon. That will leave you plenty of time to get back to D.C. via public transportation for the twilight tour.

We just returned from DC. We drove to Mr. Vernon from Crystal City arriving at 11:00. It is a very easy drive. We toured, ate a snack and took the boat ride. We left the property at 4:30. The All About Town bus picked us up at the hotel at 6:15 for our Moonlight tour. I think you will have plenty of time to do both. Enjoy!
