IAD airport to Grand Hyatt 7 people

Any suggestions. Do we need to rent a car or can we take the Metro from the Airport to the Grand Hyatt?

If you don't want a car in the city, don't rent a car to get to the Grand Hyatt. You best bet with that many people is probably to use Supershuttle (www.supershuttle.com/default.aspx…). They are an approved transit partner with Dulles airport, and with a group, you can probably reserve an entire van and it would be cost effective on a per person basis.

That said, the metro (accessible only by taking the Washington Flyer bus to the West Falls Church Metro) is probably cheaper, but also probably slower.

Here is the website for the Washington Flyer bus to the metro:

You can take Metro but just note--- if you have a lot of luggage and are traveling during rush hour, it can be difficult with 7 people. Other options include: using 2 taxis, arranging for limo service or taking the Super Shuttle. The Super Shuttle, however, can be cramped, thus uncomfortable, plus it will most likely make other stops before getting to your hotel. Also, I wouldn't use them for the trip back to the airport since they are often unreliable (not showing up for a pick-up or showing up very late).

If you decide to try Metro, you have 2 options. 1) take the Washington Flyer bus to the West Falls Church Metro station www.washfly.com and then take the train heading towards New Carrollton or 2) take the 5A Metrobus. This is the cheapest option. However, it only runs every 40 minutes and often doesn't run on time. Check out Metro's website www.wmata.com for more info.

If you decide to arrange for a limo, here are some companies to consider:

Burkilimo: www.burkilimo.com

Dulles Limousine: www.dulleslimousine.com

Boston Coach: http://www.bostoncoach.com/index.jsp

Of course, there are other companies. Perhaps others will pass along some recommendations.

How many adults and how many children? How much luggage? How much hassle are you willing to put up with? What time of day and what day of the week?

With 7 people you are talking something around $90 for the Flyer to the Metro stop and then the Metro to downtown. For a SuperShuttle van it will cost around $120 plus tip for 7 people. Much easier, since it will involve no transfers and they will take you right to the door of your hotel. If you rent a car, you will have to park it somewhere until you can return it. That will add as much as $35 to the cost of the car. And you will have to find your own way.

With 7 people you can reserve a SuperShuttle van just for your party, so no worries about other stops along the way.

Thanks for the advice everyone. We have 4 adults (one is a senior-72) and 3 kids (ages 15,12 &9) No toddlers or infants. FYI The Burk Limo toll free number on their website is out of service.

With the breakdown of your group, you definitely want to reserve the SuperShuttle for your group. The actual cost will be cheaper than doing a cab and you have the entire shuttle to yourself.

I would rent a car. You can check with the Hyatt and see if they have car rental on site and you can probably drop the car off for free. At worse you could drop everyone off at the hotel then drop the car off at National. There is no charge for dropping a car off locally if you rent it at Dulles.
