Mini Civil War Tour

Hope you folks can help me plan out a 3-day Civil War tour to Virginia as a side trip to our DC trip.

We were thinking of spending our first night in Fredericksburg (arrive in DC at 6 pm) and then continue on to Williamsburg (?) for 2 more nights.

We are interested in learning more about the Civil War, rather than the colonization of Virginia. Should we be heading elsewhere?

Can anyone recommend a good private guide that can take us around?

Many thanks!

Williamsburg would not be a good destination if you plan to visit Civil War sites and battlefields.

Here's a good list of NPS Civil War battlefield parks. …about.com/od/…National_Civil_War_Parks.htm

Here's a recent article from the Washington Post about a Civil War tour that one of their travel writers took: washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/travel/journeyi…

And here's the "Hallowed Ground" website on which she based her tour: http://www.hallowedground.org/

Finally, should you plan to visit Gettysburg, arrange for a tour with a Licensed Battlefield Guide. They are fabulous. http://www.gettysburgtourguides.org/
