First timer questions!

Just started looking into hotels in Old Town-looking for something very convient for getting into the museums (looked at Wyndam-across from metro). Would like to be able to work over to metro, not take shuttles to it. Any recommendations would be greatly appreicated! Do you think Old Town is better or easier for getting into Washington than Georgetown? Which is closer more convenient-as you can see I'm a newbie, so advice is greatly appreciated!!

Georgetown is in Washington, DC. There is no Metrorail station in Georgetown and the closest station is Foggy Bottom.

King Street station is the closest to Old Town Alexandria. If you go to the station page for King Street at www.wmata.com, you can look at the Station Masters map and see what hotels are nearby.

You can also look at the rail map at www.wmata.com and see which line(s) you would take into DC to where you would like to go

Why aren't you looking at some DC hotels first? Many are more convenient than Old Town. And Georgetown, being part of DC, can be OK as long as you are willing to use a bus rather than Metro trains for basic transportation.

There are a bunch of hotels close to the King Street Metro station and a few more near Eisenhower Avenue Metro. Embassy Suites, Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Residence Inn and others.

thanks! we were looking in Virginia, thinking the pricing would be better than staying directly in DC. Any suggestions for a DC hotel-good location, if possible around $150 a night, or is that pricing too low for DC-thinking of going end of Oct or so-

You need to give exact dates because the prices fluctuate so much. October has been proving to be very expensive this year. I guess "we" is two sharing a bed?

Crystal City and Rosslyn in VA can be very convenient and often less expensive also. Are you driving down?

The expects can help with hotel info in DC. As Darrell indicated staying in D.C. is best but sometimes it's challenging to find something in your price range. If that's the case, you might want to consider a hotel in Crystal City close to the metro. Museums will be closing early soon....That's another reason why staying in D.C. is best but Crystal City is much closer than Old Town Alexandria.

We just came back from D.C.. Some of our favourite museums were Newseum, Holocaust and the Spy museum. The Holocaust museum is free but you have to pay for the others. They're worth every penny in my opinion.

The Spy museum is in front of the Portrait Gallery (free). We really enjoyed it. Most museums in D.C. are free and walking distance to each others

This is an amazing forum. Take the time to read the past posting to learn LOTS about D.C..

You will have a great trip.

It's my husband and I, and a teen son-we're actually flexible with dates, if certain weekends are a little less expensive than others-we would like the convenience of staying in DC, or very close, thanks so much for the suggestions of where to stay that would be closer than Old Town! Any suggestions for a hotel in Crystal City??

We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Crystal City because it includes breakfast, two block from the metro and a shuttle from the Reagan Airport. It was very clean and comfortable. The Crystal City metro has the (fast) yellow line and (a little bit of a detour) blue line. You also have lots of other choices in Crystal City but first see what the expects come up with in D.C. itself.
