We were there yesterday. Did not need our IDs but were on a tour arranged through our Senator. The website suggests you cannot bring big bags or cameras but both were allowed everywhere but in the Senate and House chambers themselves and then they have you check them in so you can bring them elsewhere. They also said children under 6 weren't allowed in the senate chamber but certainly saw kids under that.

Did you know that non-citizens, even permanent residents, must have proof with them that they are allowed to be here. In every country, you should always have your passport (or a very good copy) with you. You could just show a photo driver's license from your country.

And, yes, my wife is a Canadian citizen, and was told that her "green card" (non-citizen proof of US residence) should be with her at all times.
