Help! We are homeless!

My husband and I have arrived in Washington, DC, today with 6 young adults (ages 17-22). We booked a four bedroom home in Georgetown several months ago. The woman who rented the house to us cancelled on us this morning as we were leaving to catch our flight! To make due, we booked three hotel rooms through Hotwire for the weekend so we are set until Monday morning. After that, we have no idea where we are going. I know we could continue to stay in a hotel, but once Monday arrives, prices spike up astronomically. We also really wanted a place with a kitchen and a washer and dryer. I have scoured VRBO, the TripAdvisor vacation rentals and HomeAway. Does any of the good readers here have any suggestions for us? We would prefer to stay in DC proper, but at this point, beggars can't be choosers. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Please give us the exact listing number - and the listing site - Tripadvisor, VRBO, Homeaway or airbnb - of the rental property that canceled on you. Please also give the exact dates you need. I just did a quick search and found several properties with availability - but need exact dates.

We are looking for something from this Monday 3/25 through 3/31. I promise I have thoroughly checked on all the houses on the mainstream sites. If they say they are available, they really aren't. The owners don't keep their calendars up to date in those cases. I was honestly looking for some hidden rental. Thanks for your help!

So you need 7 nights - arriving March 25 and departing April 1? With 8 people? And sorry to seem like I'm doubting your story - but unless you provide the listing of the rental that canceled on you - I do confess to confusion. I live in DC, I know the vacation rental market, I have a rental (sorry not available!) and want to help you - but please understand that the information you have posted so far doesn't really make sense.

I hope that at least you got your deposit money back. If not, you were probably scammed. Did you use VRBO to book? If so, did you buy their insurance? With any site like VRBO, the listings aren't vetted so the possibility of scams does exist. That's why VRBO offers up insurance.

Oh My Goodness, that is just awful. Look into Oakwood Corporate Apartments in Arlington, Crystal City, Va. We usually spend about 2 weeks at that property and its a great location. Easy metro ride into the district. Unfortunately, you are in DC for the Cherry Blossom season, and its pretty crazy. Sending you good wishes for a good outcome.
