Traveling solo in August/Best hidden secret?

Hello all,

I have been to DC several times and have done most of the general touristy stuff with family. In August I will be spending two weeks in Virginia (about 40 mins. to DC) so I figured it would be a good opportunity to get to know DC on a more fun and adult manner.

Any bars or lounges that you absolutely recommend?

Any cool coffee shops, bakery, restaurants I absolutely cannot miss?

Live music and outdoor seating always attract me.

Thanks in advance!

Start reading local blogs www.dcist.com and www.popville.com. All sorts of local chat on all of the above.

Just posted this for another poster, but applies here as well:

Eritrean/Ethiopian breakfast at Keren restaurant on 18th and Florida - get fuul - a plate of bean stew-ish. I don't know what's in it, but it's delicious and cheap.

Any place on 11th St - Room 11, El Chucho - tacos, street style corn, margaritas, Maple.

Ride bikeshare bikes around. Go to Dupont Market on a Sunday.

Don't forget screen on the green --- they put up this huge screen right in front of the Capitol and play old classic movies...last year I saw bonnie and clyde. Bring a blanket and sit on the mall...it gets packed.

Comet Ping Pong is unique. I think there's a beer garden on 14th now, too. Try Yelp.
