need quick help...
know of any old time, "historical' restaurants in the vicinity of my hotel on
Rhode Island ave nw?
FYI, the only thing really historic about the Old Ebbitt Grill is the name and maybe some memorabilia. It's current location is at least the third place it has been located.
For everyone's future reference
I don't know that you can necessarily describe a restaurant as "historic" simply on the basis of staying power. For pure history buffs, it's hard to top the Wok and Roll in Chinatown, which is located in the former Mary Surratt boarding house where the Lincoln assassination plot was hatched.
The Tabard Inn is located in an old rowhouse. Does that fit your criteria?
This is a great source for restaurants. There are a few near RI Ave
There's an inn on Mass Avenue --maybe around 13th? Morrison House? It's historic -- a Victorian - and may have a dining room. I think Tabard Inn would be nice.
The Iron Gate was across the street from Tabard and was a carriage house/stables - you ate at tables with brass plaques still bearing the names of the horses. There was a grape arbor in the outdoors dining area.
not in your neighborhood but an easy metro ride is http://www.gadsbystavernrestaurant.com/.
This is a truly historic restaurant.
