public transport from washington dc to pfitzner stadium

We are staying at 2500 pennyslvania avenue northwest froggy bottom and wood like to watch a baseball game at pfitzner stadium in woodbridge over a weekend. We dont have a car so will need to use public transport. We have two young kids so need something that is safe. We can either go to a saturday evening or sunday afternoon game? Does anyone have suggestions for safe transport. The cab ride seems quite expensive. Tx

According to Google Maps, public transportation would take around 3 hours one way. If you don't time the buses right or get unlucky and miss one, it could take much longer.

You're trying to get to an outlying suburban area that is 30 miles from the city without a car. It's just not practical. Stay in the city and go see the Washington Nationals instead, if they are in town on your weekend. Major league baseball is much much higher quality competition than minor league, and the Nationals Ballpark is very quick and easy to get to from Foggy Bottom (not Froggy Bottom, although there once was a bar in Foggy Bottom called that)

Use the trip planner function at wmata.com, combining rail and bus. Warning: it will take you quite a long time via metro and bus. You might want to at least check into riding the metro from Foggy Bottom out to Franconia/Springfield, and then see how much a taxi would cost you from there, as that should save you some money and yet also save you from a 3-hour trek.

If the Nats aren't in town when you're here, there is public transportation that will take you to Baltimore for the Orioles.
