need advice on trip idea

im thinking of taking my 8 year old daughter to DC for a mini getaway. Where is best place to stay? ( we will be driving there so will have a car) Best sights to see that she will enjoy?

What is the closest beach to the area....OCMD or VA Beach?

Arlington, Virginia

The "best" place to stay depends on a lot of things--including your budget. Some popular areas are Dupont Circle, Penn Quarter, and Foggy Bottom in D.C., Rosslyn and Crystal City in Arlington and Old Town in Alexandria. Expect to pay $25 - $45 per night for parking unless you stay in one of the few hotels that offers free parking. If you want specific hotel recommendations, you'll need to provide a budget with specific dates.

An 8-year-old would probably enjoy seeing the monuments, some of the exhibits at the various Smithsonian museums (such as the gemstones and the insects at the Natural History Museum), the Sculpture Garden and the Zoo. A search on this site for family attractions or checking out a book from your local library on D.C. with kids will give you more ideas.

Ocean City, MD is closer to D.C. than Virginia Beach.
