Bringing dried prunes through airport customs

Am i right in thinking it is permitted to bring sealed packets of dried prunes through customs from the UK ? Is it best to pack in hold luggage or in hand luggage ? Will it need to be declared ?

Probably not legal, but I bring all kinds of foods in my checked luggage and always say "no" when they ask me if I have food. :)

So people like Ukie are the way foreign diseases make their way into the USA. Lying about food products is dangerous.

They sell dried prunes in US grocery stores.

You are supposed to declare...the Customs person may want to see them. Pack somewhere you can easily produce them for inspection.

They are sold in all supermarkets here. Might be simpler.

"I dont bring anything exciting in, dont worry."

Diseases and pests don't always arrive in exciting items. There is a reason Customs asks about food items. And why they have dogs checking for food, as will as drugs, at the customs baggage claim.

I think it is illegal to bring plants and fruits into this country. Dried and sealed versions of them are still not legal.

From the link provided above in # 4...

"The following are generally admissible..

-Dried Fruit- things like apricots, barberry, currants, dates, figs, gooseberries, peaches, prunes, raisins, tomatillos, and zereshk (USDA Miscellaneous and Processed Products Manual, Table 3-69)

I just checked that link and everything i have brought in was allowed. Next time will declare it, had no idea the list of permissible items was so long!
