Traffic and parking after 8:00 p.m. for monuments

Considering driving in from Springfield, VA one night in Mid July to see monuments. Do not know the area in terms of traffic patterns or heavy travel. Do we need to reserve parking somewhere or can we probably find parking at one of the monuments to walk the loop? Thanks.

Rush hour traffic is usually done by 7:30 pm. As long as you can parallel park well you should be able to easily find street parking near any of the monuments around that time.

You should be able to find Parking on Constitution or Ohio Drive. Failing that try the little lots that are a little ways from the George Mason Memorial/Jefferson Memorial.

Or 21/22nd street near the Einstein statue.

There is street parking about 6:30 PM everywhere around every monument, just not close enough to walk only 50 feet. All evening you can park the 3 miles of Consitution Avenue, NW, and there is close parking to the Lincoln Memorial and WW II Memorial. There is, in the evening street parking near the Washington Mounument, and 1/4 mile away parking for the Lincoln Memorial. The Jefferson Memorial has parking a 1/3 mile away, but you have to find it. The MLK, Jr, Memorial has zero parking other than handicapped parking, except 1/3 mile away on Constitution Avenue at 19th St. (You then cut through the Mall.

Sunday this is all true, too.

During the day Mon-Sat, there are lots of parking meters, and every one of them seems to be taken, but after 8 PM,it gets emptier. Sunday is good, because the meters are free, but once you find a space you may not want to move.

Also, the entire area around 19th-23, and C to F St., NW has lots of meters, always free and availablle on Sunday, because it's all State Dept. and other symbiotic organizations that are closed on Sunday. It sounds inconvenient, but it is halfway between Washington and Lincoln, near WW II, near MLK, near the White House, near Viet Nam, Korea, Einstein.
