help with short trip

We are planning a short trip from cleveland leaving on 5/20 traveling to Chicago to visit daughter for 2 days then we were planning on driving around the lake arriving back home on the 25th.

I know it is not a lot of time but am considering this as a preview for a longer vacation later this year.

That being said what do you recomend as must see areas and overnight accomidations.

We are a couple in our early 50s and enjoy small, quaint towns, historic districts, scenic drives

Take I94 north from Chicago. When you get to Milwaukee, follow signs for the Lakefront. Follow the Lake from Lincoln Memorial Drive north to Lake Drive. Continue to Brown Deer Road(you will have traveled about 10 miles of lakefront with beautiful homes and parks) at which point you can reconnect with I43 going north. There is a "Circle Tour of the lake (in Milwaukee, mainly Highway 32/Lake Drive)You can watch for those signs.

Any restaurants along the way (Alterra for coffee, Pandls for german fare)are worth your time.

Then head north to Port and Door county as suggested.

Have fun.

One more note-

Quaint/historic districts in Milwaukee include Old World Third Street for Maders German Restaurant, Usingers, and the Spice House (as well as a river walk), and the Third Ward, an area of converted warehouses where you will find another riverwalk, many shops and restaurants (they are all good- The Wicked Hop, Coquette Cafe and many more) and just a nice place to wander.

If you write regarding where you will be in your journey for an overnight, it would be easier to help with accommodations.

Are you planning on Charlevoix on the Michigan side-that's a great little community of art gallerys and shops etc.
