Cabin rentals?

I'm trying to find some options for a stay with my husband from August 25-September 3. I'm looking for something very simple-it's okay if it's just a one room cabin with a bunk for a sleeping bag. We don't even really need a stove, as we're used to camping and can cook just fine with a fireplace. We're looking for someplace quiet-ideally on the water-where we can just hang out and read, and maybe take some day trips for a week. We're really flexible-we'd just like to be in reasonable driving distance from Chicago (maybe five or six hours?) I thought that something in a state park might work, but I'm not seeing very much. Can anyone give me some leads? Thanks!

Try looking near Stevens Point or Antigo - I'd just do a Google search. Otherwise, if you're up for another hour of driving, try Boulder Junction or Minocqua. Lots of stuff up there (I go up there each summer). www.boulderjct.org

Gordon's Lodge Bailey's Harbor has some cozy 1 bedroom cottages but they may be more than what you want to spend. Partial views of Lake Michigan. We have stayed there several times.

we have been going there as a family for years, but i think it would be perfect for what you describe. there are only 4 simple but well-kept cabins on a very large, flat lakefront. reading is generally my main activity. also-kayak, paddleboat, fishing included- pontoon to rent

plenty to do in eagle river/minoqua. can tour an iron mine in michigan-i think an hour away. there's a great gokart place toward st germain, but in 7 or 8 years, we've done very few 'things to do,' as we're generally just enjoying the timberlane property-eagles, loons included.

i enjoyed a weekend at gordons lodge in door county, but it's a totally different vibe-very resort-y

Silver Beach Resort in Lac du Flambeau on Little Crawling Stone Lake might be what you are looking for; quiet and about 10 miles from Minocqua. Boulder Junction is about 25 minutes away and is a cool little town.
