We are getting married in September of this year. We want to leave from Mitchell, SD on Sunday the 15th probably in the afternoon. We've been to the badlands, Custer, rapid, waldrug, and deadwood. We need helping planning a romantic, but exciting honeymoon. Please help. We would need to be back to Mitchell the following sunday.

Where do you want to go on your honeymoon? Yellowstone? Grand Teton/Jackson Hole? Big Horns? Wind River Range? Elsewhere?

And, how many hours/day are you willing to drive? And still have time to relax, explore? Pick some locations and use Google Maps to determine distance and driving hours (driving, in that it does not include rest stops, dining, etc.) Leaving Sunday afternoon cuts into your travel time but I assume its necessary as in, is that your wedding day?

Example: http://goo.gl/maps/DeCqZ Jackson would be terrific, but you'd be driving very hard there and back, with perhaps 3 - 4 days in the Tetons. Of course, the drive itself can be beautiful.

I don't know the area, but how about driving north toward Duluth and that region?

Yes we want to go to Yellowstone, it's about a 12 hour drive from Mitchell. Not sure where we would like to go, what's everyone's favorite? We both enjoy wildlife and hiking.

Are you planning on camping or staying in hotels/cabins? If you are not camping you need to get reservations asap. You can call Xanterra directly to see if anything is available inside the park during your dates. Cancellations occur all the time as they have a very generous cancellation policy.

Since it is such a long drive from Mitchell (12 hours) I would suggest staying in Cody one night. That would set you up for going into the park the next morning. If you can't get lodging inside the park the best gateway towns are West Yellowstone, Gardiner, and Cooke City. Gardiner and Cooke City only work for the northern end of the park.
