Travelling from Cody to Rapid City towards the end of August. Roughly how long will that take? Wouls it be feasible to take in Devils Tower and Deadwood on the way? No neend to arrive in Rapid City till early evening.

If you stop in Devils Tower for an hour and a little time in Deadwood it should take you about 9-10 hours.

Thanks. Think we might fit Deadwood in another day. 9 hours is a long time on the road. Is Devils Tower worth the detour?

Thousands of people each year take a detour to visit the Tower and hike around it, although I've always thought it resembles a huge petrified tree stump. No doubt other posters will chime in here with their own opinions.

Ha ha, I have read that! We might be fed up with amazing scenery, will have just done Tetons and Yellowstone. Sometimes you just can't fit everything in!

Our son liked it because it was in a sci-fi movie Close Enounters of the Third Kind. It was neat to see but once you've seen it then head on toward Rapid city.
