Anaheim to San Diego - Anything interesting to do with kids?

Does anyone have any great spots to stop with kids (age 4 and 7) on the way to San Diego from Anaheim? Time: early Feb 08, budget: unlimited. We plan to take the day to drive down and wonder whether it's worth stopping anywhere. We thought maybe doing Legoland on the way... any other ideas? Thanks so much, in advance. Tania

I second your idea to stop @ Legoland on the way down to SD. Your kids are the perfect age for Legoland! The Carlsbad outlets are close by if you are shoppers. It's about 60 miles from Anaheim and will take you approx. 1 hour. It's an easy drive and quite painless IF there's no traffic.

Below is a reply from a previous post that I had given re: time to leave for Legoland.

<Just leave Anaheim in the morning. It's not a bad drive to Legoland from Anaheim unless you get stuck in traffic. You'll just drive down the 5 Freeway-South, get off at Cannon Drive in Carlsbad, turn L and follow the signs to Legoland. It's about 60 miles from Disneyland. Suggest staying off of the 5 from 7-8:30 am. If you leave Anaheim around 9, you'll be in Carlsbad around 10am. Also, don't leave Carlsbad from about 4-6pm or you'll get stuck in traffic going down to SD!>

I agree. Legoland is a great place for kids of that age. I don't know where you are planning to stay in San Diego but in the town of Carlsbad(where Legoland is located) there is the wonderful 4 Seasons Aviara Resort for people with"unlimited budget". It is about a 40min drive north of downtown San Diego.

Stop and play on the beach. Oceanside and Carlsbad have nice beaches. Legoland is fun, and you should plan on most of a day to see it all!

Legoland is perfect for your kids ages. If they weather is nice - be sure to bring swim suits or a change of clothes as they have a water play area.

The water play area was closed last time we visited in the winter.

You really can't go wrong with a 4 and 7 year old at Legoland, but plan accordingly as Legoland is closed on Tuesday & Wednesday (except for the 3rd week of Feb).
