Shopping - where to go/how to get there?

We'll be in Disneyland at the end of August, staying and the Howard Johnson, and were wondering about doing some back to school shopping. I don't want to rent a car or spend a bunch of extra money on a shopping tour - just want a quick trip via taxi or city bus to a good shopping mall (discount/outlets would be nice) for teens and tweens. Can anyone recommend something close by/or easily accessed?? Thanks!

Ok, a couple of choices, if you are more into Discounts and Outlets, I would head to the corner of Harbor and Orangethorpe in Fullerton, about 3 miles north of the Howard Johnson's. To get there, take the OCTA Route 43 Public Bus, the closest stop is on the same side of Harbor as the HoJo's where the main Disneyland Pedestrian Crosswalk is (south of HoJo's).

The bus runs about every 20 minutes, and costs $1.50 a person each way. The best exit is when you get to the In-n-Out Burger at the corner. There are plenty of small discount sellers, including the Disney Character Warehouse. There is also a Target Discount store. Plus a Henry's Grocery Store where you could pick up some items to store in your hotel room. If you buy too much stuff, a taxi would be about $15 including tip each way. So maybe the bus on the way to the area, and then decide on how to get home depending on how much you buy.

More traditional mall options are also available, and that is the Block of Orange and the Mainplace mall.

The Mainplace Mall is the easier of the two to get to by Public Bus, the OCTA Route 83 runs from Disneylad to the mall about every 45 minutes, and takes about 15 minutes on the bus. It is a major stop, and just ask the bus driver to let you know when to get off. The boarding stop is in front of Disneyland, on the Disneyland side of the street under the Monorail track (right across the street from the 43 stop going north). On the way back, if you have a lot of purchases, you might get the bus driver to drop you of at the HoJo's, as that is the driver's rest stop zone, just ask nicely and they usually will take you there.

As for the Block of Orange, you take the OCTA 43 Southbound (same stop as the 83) to the corner of Harbor and Chapman, and then transfer to the 54 going east bound, the stop is in front of the Liquor store. In this case, you would buy a one day pass when you first board the bus at $4 per person. (Just insert the $4 into the fare box, and the driver will print and hand you the pass, then every other time you board, you swipe the pass in the pass box, fairlyeasy, but you can always ask for help from the driver).

One more option is the stores at the Buena Park Mall, including a Walmart, Kohl's, Sears and many more places. The public bus option here is different, as you will take an LA Metro bus instead. The ONLY La Metro bus that services the area is the Route 460. You can catch the bus at the corner of Harbor and Manchester. (You will see the Metro Bus sign on the traffic light pole at the corner where the HoJo's sign is located.) $1.50 per person each way, the mall is right before La Palma, where Knott's Berry Farm is located.

The ending bus stop on the way back is the main Disneyland Bus stop where the Southbound OCTA 43 and 83 also stop at.

Hope that helps
