Jeep Tours and beginners horse riding near Anaheim?

We're looking for some time out in canyons, forests or deserts once we're done with the usual tourist attractions and would like to try a jeep tour or horse riding for a few hours.

I have found jeep tours in Palm Springs but am wondering if there are any a bit closer to Anaheim?

Any suggestions?

Hello, RootBeerFan, and welcome to the Anaheim, California forum.

You really have to get out of the Anaheim/Orange County area to get what you are looking for. Fallbrook in north San Diego County has horses to ride as does Norco in western Riverside County.

To get the whole package you are looking for, I would recommend visiting me where I live. . . California's Antelope Valley in northern Los Angeles County and eastern Kern County. At Jawbone Canyon south and west of Red Rock Canyon State Park (north of Mojave) there are jeep trails which many locals and out of towners recreate at. Between Mojave and the near ghost towns of Randsburg and Johannesburg lies California City, which is a mecca of jeeping and off roading. It's all do it yourself, though. If you really want a guide, I'm sure one could be had. . . I'd contact the Mojave Chamber of Commerce for starters. Need a Jeep to rent? Hunter Dodge (and Jeep) in Lancaster should be able to work something out for you.

As for horseback riding lessons, I would recommend Rainbow Ridge Ranch, which is between Palmdale and Acton. Here's your link: http://www.horsebackriding.la/ They do it all, from children to adults, and beginners to experienced. Good place to get your lessons.

Palm Springs is one of the closest places you will find jeep tours. You need to drive 1.5-2 hours from Anaheim just to get out of the urban sprawl to some open spaces.

You might want to try this company.See them driving around PS all the time.

For other things to do in PS try the tram. www.pstramway.com

or the Living Desert www.livingdesert.org

There is horseback riding in Anaheim at Rancho Del Rio Stable, www.ranchodelriostable.

One that is an area more like you are looking for is in Irvine Regional Park which is basically in Orange, not too far from Anaheim. This would be more in the wilderness than the other one. www.ctriding.com

There is "wilderness" in Orange County and there are more places with horse back riding. You can do an internet search and find more.
