Lodging walking distance to Anaheim Convention Center

Hello everyone!!!

Planning on attending convention March 8 to 11 at the convention center. Looking for ideas and suggestions where to stay that is walking distance.

Also is the LA airport the best to fly into coming from Detroit, how easy is it

to transfer from Airport to convention center without car?

Will be picking up car after convention and driving to San Francisco how long of a drive should we plan on.

Thanks Lary

The nearest two airports to the Anaheim Convention Center are Long Beach (LGB) and John Wayne (aka Orange County/Santa Ana/SNA). Both 14 miles away. LAX is over twice the distance.

Long Beach is the smallest airport in the area, and your main choice to fly into this Airport is JetBlue.

John Wayne is medium sized, but a lot easier than LAX. Many airlines fly here, including Southwest.

One nice thing about both airports, the Rental Car locations are right next to the Terminal, so no need to get onto a shuttle. At LAX, you have to take a shuttle to the far edge of the property to pick and return your rental car.

As for driving to the San Francisco Bay area, it is about 500 miles, and you have three main routes, the fastest is straight up Interstate 5, but it is basically driving through flat farm land most of the way and pretty boring.

The Coastal route is very nice (Basically the 1), most folks say you need a stop in the middle for one night to do the drive justice.

The third is the inland route, using Highway 99, more scenic than I-5, but still a lot of farmland through the Central Valley.

As for Hotels, what type of place are you looking for, and what type of price?

The Hyatt and Marriott are the two closest, and are typical Business Hotels with Full Service. A bit farther are the Sheraton Park and the Red Lion. The Red Lion tends to be the cheapest "full service" in the convention center area.

There is also the Alpine Inn, a older 2 story Motel, right across the street form the Convention Center. Nothing fancy, but if all you are looking for is a shower, bed and a free basic breakfast, it isn't a bad choice if you are on a budget. Currently ranked #17 out of 106 of Anaheim Hotels here at TA.

Also there is the Desert Palms, also on Katella across from the Convention Center

And you can keep going and finding more if you expand the distance you are willing to walk.

My daughter lives in San Ramon (East Bay) and it takes her 6 hours to drive to Disneyland.

You can also fly into Ontario airport, which is farther than Long Beach or OC/John Wayne but you can get good deals and to get to Anaheim is pretty easy as you are going opposite traffic, if you come in around mid-morning.

Avoid LAX if you can...most of us do :))
