Staying in Arcadia

We will be visitin CA firt week in July. We have a room booked in Buena Park but are looking for another option since we will be doing : Santa Monica, LA District, Venice Beach, Malibu and celebrity homes, dodgers game while we are visiting. We had heard Pasadena is a nice place to stay but don't see a hotel that would accomodate us. We will be traveling with our 19 year old and her boyfriend so we need a room with a little privacy from boyfriend. We saw the Embassy in Arcadia. Any thoughts on this hotel and/or area?

I'd suggest staying somewhere else. The LA area is huge. Arcadia is on the far eastern side of it. Most of the places you mentioned (Santa Monica, Malibu, Venice) are on the far western side, and most of the sights in LA itself are no where near Arcadia. Traffic in LA is a bear if you're driving, you won't want to be driving all the way across the city every time you head out to one of your destinations, and if you won't have a car, Arcadia would be pretty much undoable (it will take forever to reach the places you mentioned on public transportation, and it would be far cheaper to rent a car than to use taxis to reach them from Arcadia).

To give you an idea, Arcadia is about 35 miles from Santa Monica by car, all of it through the worst of LA traffic. Here's a map that might help put this into perspective:

Santa Monica is at the west end of the route shown on the map. Venice is just south of Santa Monica. Malibu is the long stretch of the coast where the coast starts running east and west, northwest of Santa Monica.

It would be good to know if you will have a car or not.

Unfortunately, LA does not have all that many "all-suite" hotels like Embassy Suites. At a minimum, I'd suggest looking at the Embassy Suites in Glendale, which just opened a year or two ago, or one of the two Embassy Suites at LAX (Embassy Suites LAX North, and Embassy Suites LAX South). None of these have the most convenient locations for your itinerary, but both would be less inconvenient than Arcadia.

A couple other all-suite hotels that often are recommended on here would be Orchid Suites in Hollywood, or either the Doubletree or Cal Mar Suites in Santa Monica. All of these will be much better located for your itinerary than Arcadia.

Without knowing your hotel budget, the other thought would be to try and get two rooms at a non-suite hotel, which would give you much more flexibility.

We will be renting a car so we will have that flexability. We had thought about Embassy at LAX but after looking at the earth map through Google, the area does not look appealing to us.

You haven't mentioned your budget, but how about the Residence Inn Beverly Hills (which is not actually in Beverly Hills but is nearby). It is in a good location relative to most things you have mentioned.

Glendale is nice but not that much better located than Arcadia for your list of destinations.

Doubletree Suites in Santa Monica may fit the bill-- great location, walkable to Santa Monica Beach.

Both Glendale and Arcadia may be quite hot and possibly smoggy in July, so if you can find a suites hotel within your price range in West LA (the Residence Inn above is West LA) or Santa MOnica, I'd prefer that. Glendale and Arcadia (near Pasadena) are perfectly pleasant areas, just more of a drive and hot.
