Touring with golf cart question

Hi,

Our family (2 adults, 1 teen) will be spending the weekend in Avalon in March. We don't want to do the 'tour' thing to the Casino. Can we take the rental golf cart here? If not, how far of a walk...we are staying at the Catalina Canyon Resort.

Thanks,

:-) Bobbi

Bobbi,

Everything is close in Avalon. You can easily walk all over from your hotel in the Canyon.

The only way to see the Casino is to do the tour or attend an event. You can see the movie theater if you go to see a movie. The theater is on the ground floor. The museum is also in a small area in one part of the building.

We have attended the New Years party in the Casino twice and have seen the upper floors because of that. Otherwise, a tour is the only way that I'm aware of to see the entire building.

Marti,

Thank you for the advice re: the golf cart. We haven't been to Catalina since high school days ( many, many moons ago...), so we're excited about our upcoming trip!

The Casino is absolutely worth seeing, either by tour or go to the movie there. The architecture & domed ceiling are beautiful.

The Catalina Canyon Resort is a good 15 minute hilly walk down to front street & the beach, however they do have a shuttle you can use, but I don't know how often it runs- you may wind up waiting alot.

Just a couple minutes walk down the hill from your hotel is the Country Club, which is a great place to have lunch in the patio area if the weather's pleasant or the dinner's in the beautiful dining room are equally impressive. Check for early bird deals.

By the way, golf cart rentals are only by the hour, not by the day or week. But definitely rent one for an hour and do the 'loop' they recommend. It gives you a great overview of the town, along with some great photo ops from the hills.

Have fun; we LOVE Catalina!

RGTraveler,

Thanks for sharing, we are excited to see Catalina. We were on a 3 day cruise in December and cruising around the island the last day, well, got us inspired to check it out in person!

My husband and I married on Catalina 5 years ago. We found an open air tram that took us on a loop past the golf course, school and through the houses. Check out this web sight

Enjoy your trip.

Montana08,

My husband and I play golf every week, so the loop you describe past the course sounds interesting. Again, we're bringing our son (16) who, despite our attempts, does not like golf :-( ...so your idea sounds great. We can check it out for future trips. Thanks again.

due to road closures (town of Avalon out to the Helicopter/Buffalo Nickel) and restrictions on rental golf carts (from town up and over Mt Ada.) renting a golf cart would work for a tour out to Descanso Beach and up to the Wrigley Memorial....and a one hour (two tops) would be enough. The walk DOWN to town from the catalina Canyon is easy but the walk back UP....well, it's a good way to walk off dinner.

plan on seeing a movie at the casino (the local theater) as it is a beautiful 1929 deco movie house and the Casino ballroom is worth the tour...stop by the Museum downstairs too!

catalina canyon Hotel out to the casino would be a leisurly 30 min walk.....

the local mini-golf is homebuilt and a kick...it was my daughters favorite place when she was a teen and lived here...and there is a stable with 1hr-3hr rides too!

Enjoy your visit!
